Austin Custom Brass Trent Austin Signature Mouthpiece (TOP only)
All threaded tops are compatible with Warburton threaded components, pretty much now the "standard" in the industry.
Here is an opportunity to purchase the same model mouthpiece that I perform on regularly. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to design and manufacture custom trumpet mouthpieces of the highest quality. In the past 10 years working with many trumpet makers I’ve been extremely lucky to pick the brains of some of the best! They’ve showed me a ton of incredible insight as well as help guide me down this path.
The reason my shop (www.austincustombrass.com) exists is to highlight three new lines of trumpet mouthpieces. I am very happy to offer to the public for the first time my signature mouthpiece, the TA 1. It’s hard to describe this mouthpiece in full detail but I can give you a snapshot into what I designed:
I love the great vintage pieces of the 20’s-60’s from such makers as King, Heim, Al Cass, Giardinelli, Vincent Bach (NY), Parduba, and Purviance. I truly believe some of the most fantastic design concepts came out of the “golden age” of trumpet. In the past few years I’ve been very lucky to be able to acquire mouthpieces from many of the world’s greatest players. One of the pieces I’ve loved so much is the special mouthpiece made for one of my heroes, Clark Terry. His piece, which was based of a Gustat Heim, had an incredibly efficient “vee” shape while not making the tone brittle or strident. I think the V-cupped shapes have both wonderful ease/efficiency and an incredible tone.
For this piece I modified the rim and cup to make it more accessible to today’s modern player. Clark’s original rim design was VERY flat… this one is still flat but not nearly as pronounced as the original. The diameter of the piece has also been increased as I felt the original was a tiny bit small for my taste. The cup entrance to the throat has also been blended a bit more to make the balance between cup and bore much more efficient. I’ve also made this model with a slightly bigger backbore to help today’s player (who in general prefer slightly more open backbores to the vintage lines).
Another thing you’ll notice in the pictures is my custom blank. I believe this weight distribution to be be great not only for maximum efficiency but also for increased color spectrums over either the typical “Bach” or heavy blanks.
To describe this piece in a “modern context” :
• the rim would be like a 5-7 Bach diameter
• cup a V
• #26 throat
All mouthpieces will be silver plated. If you’d like gold email me and I can quote you on the current gold pricing. Each mouthpiece will go through not only rigorous quality control but each piece will be tested personally by Trent Austin.
This ensures that the equipment you are receiving will be the absolutely best quality without any compromise to “get it sold”. This is the most important aspect we can offer our clients!
Here's a recent review from Chuck from California (11.21.17):
"After a 51 year hiatus from playing I decided to take up the trumpet again. I had a lot of study and practice ahead of me. I had no idea that there was so many mouth pieces available for the artist in today’s world. In my day a mouth piece was just another mouth piece as far as I knew. I was having a lot of trouble with the higher registration and aching chops. Practice was hard and frustrating for me. After much research I decided that a call to Josh at ACB was in order. I might add that it is a real treat to call a phone number a talk to a human that knows their business. We discussed my problems and with great advice I purchased a ACB -TA1 mouth piece. I popped the AT1 on my Brasspire trumpet ( purchased from ACB also ) and practiced for a while. My range was up at least an octave +, low range was much easier and the comfort was as good as it gets in my opinion... no more aching chops. I soon bought an AT1MDF mouth piece for my flugelhorn. Same exact deal as the trumpet AT1. Now I finally feel that my practice time is making a real difference in my task at hand. I can’t tell how much of a pleasure it is to have the folks at Austin Custom Brass as my pals. My next purchase will be the Brasspire 850 flugelhorn.
Thanks, Trent and Josh for your help and expertise.
